What is Cupping?

Cupping; It is applied in a hospital, clinic or any health center that has permission to practice this treatment.

It is the process of drawing dirty blood from certain points of the body by using vacuum or cannula suction.

Hacamat is a practice also known as cupping therapy that has become widespread throughout the world.

This complementary medicine treatment, which is not suitable for application in every region, has benefits such as improving blood circulation, cleaning toxins accumulated in the body and reducing pain.

Cupping therapy, whose benefits have not been proven scientifically, is widely preferred by those who believe in its benefits.

Although the treatment is mostly applied to the back area, it can be applied to many different points depending on the health problems and differences in expectations.

What are the Types of Cupping?

  1. Dry Cupping:

During dry cupping, the aim is to draw blood to a certain area by applying vacuum to the skin. Vacuum containers are usually placed on the skin surface and then a vacuum is created to draw blood from the skin to these areas. During this procedure, no incisions are made on the skin surface.

  1. Wet Cupping:

During wet cupping, vacuum is also applied to the skin, but this time one of the vacuum cups is removed and a small amount of blood is taken. The incisions made during this procedure are generally very small and some blood is removed from the surface veins, aiming to cleanse the blood and increase circulation.

To Whom Can Cupping Be Performed? To Whom Should It Not Be Performed?

Cupping is not performed on people who have undergone organ transplantation, dialysis and hemophilia patients. Cupping cannot be done on burns, eczema, varicose veins and other wounds, moles or vitiligo.

What Kind Of Changes Occur In The Body After Cupping?

What Is Prohibited After Cupping?

There are some rules that should or should not be done before and after a useful and healthy cupping treatment. You should not eat or drink anything for at least two hours after cupping. Water, tea, coffee, cigarettes, soft drinks, etc. should not be drunk. After two hours, you can add a teaspoon of vinegar to a glass of water and drink it.

What Should the Person Who Performs Cupping Care Pay Attention to?

Blood thinning foods (lemon, cherry, sour cherry) should be avoided for at least 3-7 days before cupping. It is not recommended to consume animal foods (meat, milk, eggs, yoghurt, buttermilk, fish, etc.) the day before cupping treatment.

Cupping is a traditional treatment method and not a medical procedure. However, it is recommended that the procedure be performed by a healthcare professional in accordance with the procedure to be performed on the person to be applied. It is important that the equipment used during cupping is sterile, complies with hygiene rules and the person performing the application is experienced.
